Rhythmic delivery used by tragic actors based on alexandrine verse consisting of twelve feet. This developed in France in the 17th century. The first people to reform speech production to make it sound more natural were Adrienne Lecouvreur, Lekain and Mademoiselle Clairon (mid-18th century), and later Talma, in 1800. |
