Italian actors (Comédiens italiens) |
Long present in France, the Italian actors led by Fiorelli, known as Scaramouche, settled in Paris in 1639. They shared several theatres with Molière's company of actors, adapting a French repertoire to their acting style. Driven out by Louis XIV in 1697, they came back at the request of the Regent, led by Riccobini. The Italian actors built up their influence throughout the century until they were installed in the Opéra Comique in 1762. |
