Repertoire

In 1680 the monopoly the king granted solely to the Comédiens-Français, enabling them to perform plays in French in Paris and its inner suburbs, resulted in a collection of plays for the repertoire that included all the existing theatrical works. The repertoire was then enriched as and when new plays were put on at the Comédie-Française.
Today a play can only enter the Salle Richelieu repertoire once it has been proposed by the Managing Director and accepted by the Reading Committee.
