Technical supervision |
The art of managing all the technical aspects of a performance successfully. These not only include the props, furniture, sets, light, sound, and costumes but also other aspects such as schedules, rehearsals, etc. The stage manager sits at a desk in the wings. He or she calls the actors onto the stage as their roles require, and cues the technicians for the set changes as defined during rehearsals. The light and sound technicians prepare the various effects and make sure they are carried out during performances. The assistant stage manager follows the play through from the set-up, preparatory phase to the actual performances. He or she takes staging notes, organises work schedules, ensures proper liaison between the artistic and technical teams, and serves as prompt when necessary. The co-ordination manager prepares and sends out the schedules for all the activities for the three theatres, for the rehearsal theatres, and for the outside activities such as tours, audiovisual shoots, radio recordings, readings, etc. He or she makes monthly statements for the heating allowance (feux) and activities of the actors with a view to calculating their salary, and updates the Comédie-Française business records. See heating allowance. The wardrobe supervisor is seconded to a particular play and ensures follow up. He or she draws up a detailed list for the dressers that also includes jewellery and props. |
