Songs of the Days with And Songs of the Days without
Cabaret made up of songs from the repertoire of “La prochaine fois je vous le chanterai” (Next time I’ll sing it for you), a France Inter radio programme
devised by Philip Meyer
The troupe of the Comédie-Française will give fresh voice and another life to the songs that were sung during the infamous economic crisis, the one that happened in 1929 and that has been brought up a great deal in recent months. Sometimes it was to tell us to be worried, that the need for belt- tightening had been written on the wall a long while ago; sometimes it was to reassure us, explaining that our crisis, unlike the former one, is a crisis under control. Following the example of Georges Brassens and his “My favourite war, colonel, is the 1914-18”, we could sing, “My favourite crisis, Mr bank manager, is the 1929”.
