In addition to the plays it stages, every season the Comédie-Française puts the spotlight on current French and foreign theatrical writing through a series of nine readings on the stages of the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier and the Studio-Théâtre. The selection of plays performed on stage by the actors of the Troupe is made by the Reader’s Bureau, which, every season, reads the texts sent to the Comédie-Française by about 400 authors. Chaired by Laurent Muhleisen, the Comédie-Française’s literary adviser, it is composed of members of the Troupe, collaborators and external members and meets six times over the course of the season.
At the end of the public readings, the audience members who attended all the presentations vote for their favourite.
