Discovering the texts of contemporary French or foreign authors, reading them and, in some cases, putting them in the spotlight, is one of the missions of the Comédie-Française.
Every season, the Comédie-Française puts contemporary French or non-French writing for theatre in the spotlight.
For this purpose, the Readers’ Bureau reads about four hundred authors a year. Chaired by Laurent Muhleisen, the Comédie-Française’s literary adviser, it is composed of actors from the Troupe, associate artists and external members who meet six times a year to select plays to be a given public reading by the Comédiens-Français.
Following these public readings, spectators who have attended all the presentations (the “committed spectators group”) vote for their favourite play.
This season, two plays distinguished by the Readers’ Bureau have been included on the Comédie-Française’s programme, Stefano Massini’s7 minutes, directed by Maëlle Poésy, and Lluïsa Cunillé’s Massacre, directed by Tommy Milliot.
