Discovering the texts of contemporary French or foreign authors, reading them and, in some cases, putting them in the spotlight, is one of the missions of the Comédie-Française.
With this goal in mind, the Readers’ Bureau reads about four hundred plays a year. Chaired by Laurent Muhleisen, the Comédie-Française’s literary adviser, it is composed of actors from the Troupe, associate artists and external members who meet six times a year to select plays that are given public readings by the Comédiens-Français.
Following these public readings, spectators who have attended all the presentations (the “committed spectators group”) vote for their favourite play.
