“Growing so as not to grow old”: the resonance of this issue in contemporary theatre.
Following on from the theme of “battles”, “Growing so as not to grow old” is the new challenge proposed by Muriel Mayette this year and put in the spotlight by the Comédie-Française, which will be celebrating 333 years of existence on 21 October 2013.How can we renew the repertoire while reinterpreting it? How can we take a fresh look at texts and bring out their topicality? How can we enrich this repertoire with new contemporary poets?
We will explore this proposal in four sessions. In the course of these meetings hosted by Agathe Sanjuan, the curator-archivist of the Comédie-Française, specialists from several disciplines will give perspectives on this theme and its variations, considering it in its aesthetic, philosophical and historical dimensions as well as in its everyday application to theatre.
