C'est lundi au Vieux-Co : The advent of fame, from Talma to Aya Nakamura

Comédie-Française’s 195th sociétaire François-Joseph Talma is considered to be one the greatest tragedian of theatre history. He was such a star in his time that the day of his funeral, two centuries ago, a huge crowd gathered to pay tribute to the actor Napoleon himself referred to as “a superiorly talented man and the best in his field in every way”. In an era which seems to produce fast Internet fame based on seemingly obscure criteria, this Vieux-Co Monday is an opportunity to explore the innerworkings of fame throughout the centuries. The event gathers Collège de France professor and Talma and fame emergence specialist Antoine Lilti, Sorbonne professor and Romantic era specialist Florence Naugrette, and France Inter journalist Mathilde Serrell, whose job leads her to discover “new faces” every day, and who wrote a documentary one of the most impressive phenomenon of the last ten years, Taylor Swift, la première puissance américaine.
