“I write for bodies and vocal ranges. With these means, I come up with ways to think about the world in which I live and give it a form.”
Is in these terms that Pascal Rambert presents the theatre he writes and directs at the T2G (Théâtre de Gennevilliers where he was artistic director from 2007 to 2016), in France and elsewhere around the world. This creator without borders loves actors, he conceives his texts for them and bases his writing on them. Like in Le Début de l’A. which he created in 2005 at the Comédie-Française, his entire work is an aggregate of fictional and very real material. Therein lies the uniqueness of his research, which is both highly contemporary, conceptual and directly connected to reality.The porosity between art and life, between life and death, is at the centre of his new production set in a radio studio during a show dedicated to an artist. Evocations of people who are dear to him are always condensed emotional moments capable of bringing them back to life – but very different to flashbacks – in constantly changing relational dynamics. “We are in the absolute dream of what I love in life”, says the author. In the face-to-face confrontation between interviewer and interviewee, he also explores the dramatic tension that can arise between a question and the lack of response: a silence loaded with the impossibility of speaking – of one’s art, of oneself – until thought suddenly bursts forth and circulates.
