Les Géants de la montagne

Why do we gather around a table to read a story aloud? What do we look for in a theatre, with each other? Where does this magic we invoke come from and that we need so much?
I would like the reading of this unfinished play by Pirandello, his last, to resemble a ritual that lets the ghosts of our imaginations emerge. I would like this reading to be an opportunity to dive together into the exploration of the play as if it were the first day of rehearsal, when we meet at the table and share our sensations and our questions. That first day, when we don’t know and we hope that something will happen – yes, but what? I would like to have the audience see, very clearly, that imperceptible moment when the actor slips into a trance and then emerges slightly dazed. I would like the audience to participate in this exploration by feeling immersed in our discussions around the reading.
In this way, perhaps we will approach the spirit of this author, who in several works showed the incredible beauty and roughness of the theatre craftsman’s work, the humour, the awkwardness and the thirst for poetry that inhabit us all, actors, technicians and spectators. So maybe we will see mountains, giants, green lights and puppets together. Who knows?
